About

Intelligence Tradecraft is a Norwegian company based in Oslo, Norway and was established in 2023. The company is dedicated to empowering intelligence and cyber threat intelligence (CTI) analysts with the skills they need to excel.

At Intelligence Tradecraft, we specialize in delivering high-quality training programs through courses, workshops and consultancy services.

Our experienced and certified intelligence instructors tailor our offerings to meet the specific needs and goals of our clients in both the public and private sectors.

The team of instructors are all seasoned intelligence professionals with many years of experience from various roles within the intelligence community.

Intelligence Tradecraft collaborate with Pherson & Associates LLCto deliver the Intelligence Analyst Professional (IAP) for Cyber certification training across Europe.

we also acollaborate closely with Intel471 and KASE Scenarios to deliver intelligence focused cyber and OSINT course and workshops.

The core of what we do at Intelligence Tradecraft is tied to the intelligence process, intelligence cycle, and the “way” we do things when we manage an intelligence function, write intelligence products, or share our insights and intelligence with our clients, i.e. the intelligence tradecraft.

Intelligence is obviously a passion of ours and we spend a lot of time sharing our knowledge as guests on podcasts, speakers at conferences, and hosting courses and workshops.

In the fall of 2025, we launched the Intel tradecraft podcast, which interviews former and current intelligence officers around the world, as well as CTI professionals, managers, CISO’s, and CRO’s.

About me

My journey began back in 2011 when a right-wing terrorist blew up a government building in down-town Oslo and then drove to an island outside of the city and murdered innocent children. Later that day my unit was called into action and we began working in and around Oslo.

The following day, after everything we had learned about the incident until then, I decided I wanted to help detect and respond to terrorism and stop terrorists before they could harm innocent people!

In 2014 I started my first master’s degree at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. I wanted to learn about the radicalisation process and how someone comes to the decision to hurt innocent people.

I quickly understood that this knowledge wasn’t sufficient. I needed to learn more about intelligence and how my knowledge on counter terrorism could be applied. Therefore, the following year, I began my second master’s degree in “Intelligence and International Security” at the renowned War Studies Department at King’s College London.

After my education was complete I went back to military service and furthered my career in intelligence analysis as an all source analyst and a Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) Specialist.

I left the service in fall 2018 and into the private sector as a Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) advisor for the non-profit organisation Nordic Financial CERT (NFCERT).

In May 2023 I began my PhD journey at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Gjøvik, Norway where I am researching the intersection of intelligence methodology and how it can be applied to cyber threat intelligence (CTI). I share my ongoing research, articles and PhD process with the community through my newsletter.

In the private sector I have spent most of my time generating strategic and operational intelligence for decision-makers.

I have also taught courses in traditional intelligence and held intelligence workshops for the cybersecurity community across Europe. I have held seats in the FS-ISAC European Threat Intelligence Committee (ETIC), in the FIRST CTI Special Interest Group (FIRST CTI SIG), and chaired the NFCERT Threat Intelligence Community (NFCERT TIC).

In late 2019, a government entity in Norway invited Mr Randy Pherson to come to Norway and teach his “Intelligence Analysis Professional” (IAP) course for a range of participants, from both the private and public sector. Although I already had training in his material from my previous work, it was at this time I really began to understand how to use the SATs in my work in the cybersecurity sector and was eager to make sure more professionals from the community would join any future courses. Sadly, COVID-19 put a stop to that process, until winter of 2022.

I originally started my company, Intelligence Tradecraft, as a way to host intelligence certification training for the cybersecurity community in Norway. The goal was to teach cybersecurity specialists critical thinking and how to apply structured analytic techniques (SATs) to reduce bias in their reporting.

The first certification training was hosted by me in Oslo during winter of 2022 and I have offered this training to the Norwegian cybersecurity community every year since. I slowly expanded the training into northern Europe and hosted certification training in Copenhagen, Helsinki, and The Hague.

The company has since grown to also offer services in bespoke training and workshops, consultancy, virtual intelligence management, speaking engagements, and a podcast.

“The best analytical tool remains a really good analyst”

Moore, David. Critical Thinking and Intelligence Analysis, 2010

The goal going forward is to continue the PhD research into how we can apply intelligence tradecraft in the private sector. We also want to reiterate the value of SATs in intelligence analysis to the European intelligence community (IC) and introduce critical thinking and Structured Analytical Techniques (SATs) to the wider cybersecurity community in Europe.

Vision statement

Intelligence Tradecraft shall be the leading provider of critical thinking and intelligence analysis training across European countries. We shall empower public and private organisations with analytical capabilities to strengthen their analytical capabilities, drive better decision-making, and enhance their overall performance.

Our training and workshops are hands-on and built on practical research, real-world examples, and the integration of new technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). Combining real-world case studies with AI-powered technology ensures a hands-on learning experience that stays ahead of industry trends.

We shall enable organisations to make intelligence-driven decisions, reducing stakeholders’ uncertainty, increase the organisation’s strategic, operational, tactical and technical advantages, and provide decision support to prepare the organisation to respond effectively to complex threats. Our commitment lies in honing intelligence and Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) analysts’ critical thinking skills and enabling them to master Structured Analytic Techniques (SATs), leading to faster and more accurate assessments and reducing the organisation’s response time and, ultimately, a safer and more secure world.

Mission statement

Our mission at Intelligence Tradecraft is to empower public and private organisations to gain a competitive edge, make informed decisions, mitigate risks, and achieve their strategic objectives through enhanced analytical capabilities. We achieve this by delivering training and workshops on critical thinking to sharpen analytical acumen, intelligence tradecraft to foster intelligence standards, and Structured Analytical Techniques (SATs) to reduce bias and enforce analytical rigour.

Our primary audiences are intelligence and Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) analysts.

Our training and workshops address the specific challenges analysts face to tackle real-world intelligence requirements (IRs) successfully, use appropriate analytical tradecraft and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, and communicate the finished intelligence to the rest of the organisation.
